Curriculum

Core Curriculum

Our core curriculums are  ABeka and Bob Jones.  These are Biblically-based curriculums which we have found to be ideal in a Christian school setting.  Our spelling curriculum is ASCI which we have found to be excellent in its presentation.  Other curriculum, such as Accelerated Christian Education (PACES), may be used to bring a student to an acceptable performance level. The Bible is our primary book for wisdom, knowledge and understanding.

New students may be tested to identify any gaps in their learning and curriculum may then be prescribed according to their actual level of performance.  The scope and sequence of our curriculum moves with continuous progress from the first skill to be mastered on through the next skill in sequence.

We have found that for the Junior High and High School grades traditional lecture classes are important in developing the listening and note-taking skills needed for college.

Barton Reading and Spelling Program

We use the ABeka curriculum in the elementary.  It has a phonics intensive reading program and is very effective for 75-80% of our students.  Those that struggle with reading in spite of our phonics program will have opportunity to begin the Barton Reading and Spelling program.  We have been a reading site for this program for over 10 years.  The Barton program was designed specifically for children with dyslexia.  After 20 years of research the studies made by the National Institute of Health found that 1 our of 5 children have dyslexia, which is a language processing disorder.  The Barton Reading and Spelling program takes about two years to complete.  It's not a quick fix, but it is very effective.  We have found that our students completing the program are reading and spelling as well as their classmates.
